Microsoft’s New Surface Laptop 5G for Business, Copilot+ PC is the First to Pack Cellular Connectivity

Microsoft has been quietly making laptops that look as good as the best of them and the Surface Laptop 5G for Business proves they’re not just keeping up – they’re leading the way. This 13.8-inch device is the first Surface Laptop with cellular connectivity and is for professionals who need seamless online access anywhere.

Portability and performance go together. At 0.69 inches thick and 2.96 pounds it fits in a briefcase or backpack for meetings or long flights. The 13.8-inch PixelSense touchscreen with 2256 x 1504 resolution is perfect for presentations or late night spreadsheets. Anti-reflective coating reduces glare so you can work in bright cafes or sunny airport lounges.

Connectivity is the hero. The 5G modem, with NanoSIM and eSIM, gets you online in urban hubs or remote offices. Microsoft didn’t stop at adding a modem – they created a dynamic antenna system with six antennas that adapt to the device’s orientation. The laptop is a 5G hotspot and can share its connection with other devices. For wired needs it has two USB-C 4.0/Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB-A 3.2 port, one 3.5mm headphone jack and the Surface Connect port for charging or docking.

Performance is powered by Intel’s Core Ultra Series 2 processors available in Core Ultra 5 or Core Ultra 7 options. These chips have a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that can do over 40 trillion operations per second for fast on-device AI tasks. Memory is 16GB to 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM and removable PCIe Gen 4 SSDs in 256GB, 512GB or 1TB.

Battery life is impressive with up to 22 hours of local video playback and 14 hours of active web use. The 60W USB-C charger that comes with it is fast charging but you’ll need your own for ultra-light travel.

Security is strong with Windows 11 Secured-core PC and Microsoft Pluton technology to protect against cyber threats. Some models have an optional smart card reader for password-free login and the Surface Management Portal integrates with Intune Admin Center for IT teams to monitor device health and compliance.

Pricing starts at $1,799 for the Core Ultra 5 with 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD and $2,699 for the Core Ultra 7 with 32GB RAM and 1TB. Available through Microsoft’s Surface for Business partners only, including Verizon Business in the US. Ships August 26, 2025.
