Music City Loop is The Boring Company’s Plan to Transform Nashville’s Underground Future

The Boring Company’s Music City Loop will bring high-speed, all-electric underground transit to Nashville, connecting downtown to Nashville International Airport in just 8 minutes. Fully funded by private partners, this project will start construction in fall 2025 and potentially launch in spring 2026, easing traffic while boosting the city’s growth.
The Music City Loop will be 10 miles long and connect key locations like the Convention Center to the airport. Unlike taxpayer-funded transit, it’s all funded by The Boring Company. “Tennessee is leading the nation in finding innovative solutions to infrastructure challenges,” said Governor Bill Lee. “By partnering with private sector companies like The Boring Company, we’re exploring things we couldn’t do on our own as a state.”

The Loop is simple and efficient, with electric vehicles zooming through tunnels to your destination, no stops required. It’s car-like feel with mass transit capacity and can move thousands of people per hour, perfect for Nashville’s tourism and event scene. “The Boring Company is excited to bring our world-class tunneling and transportation to Tennessee,” said Steve Davis, President of The Boring Company. “We appreciate and thank the State of Tennessee, and local Nashville community and business leaders for their continued support and collaboration.”
Safety is top priority, building on the Vegas Loop’s 99.51% Homeland Security rating and Gold Standard Award. Fortunately, The Boring Company easily meet NFPA-130 fire safety standards so commuters will be able to safely travel to work or the airport.
Nashville is growing fast and has traffic problems so it’s a great candidate. The Loop will reduce road congestion, save millions in highway maintenance and create jobs in construction and operations. “We are aware of the state’s talks with the Boring Company and we have many operational questions to understand the impact on Metro and Nashvillians,” said Mayor Freddie O’Connell, cautiously optimistic.
The Boring Company’s US-built tunneling machines and vertical integration means cost-effective and timely delivery. The Vegas Loop has over 3 million passengers and is a preview of what Nashville will have: fast, reliable, affordable transit. Community feedback will guide route planning and there will be over 40 stations to connect surrounding areas in the future.“The Music City Loop will take thousands of cars off the road each day, reducing traffic and creating jobs for Tennesseans,” officials said.
By 2026 the Music City Loop could make Nashville the model for urban mobility, keeping its soul while moving forward. As the tunnels are built this will change how the city moves and the impact will be felt far beyond Tennessee.
