DJI Osmo 360 Officially Launched, Offers New Angle on Action Cameras

Launched July 31, 2025, the DJI Osmo 360 joins the 360-degree action camera party, taking on the Insta360 X5 and the aging GoPro Max. Its $549.99 starting price gets you innovative tech and creator-friendly features for footage that’s fun to shoot as it is to watch.
The 183g Osmo 360’s dark grey body (80 x 60 x 35mm) is shorter but chunkier than the X5. Dual lenses capture the full sphere, a 2-inch touchscreen to see what you’re doing and three buttons – power, record and lens switch – keep it simple. There’s a magnetic mount and tripod thread for flexibility.
Insta360 X5 – Waterproof 8K 360° Action Camera, Leading Low Light, Invisible Selfie Stick Effect, Rugged…
- 8K30fps 360° Video with Dual 1/1.28″ Sensors: Capture stunning detail with dual 1/1.28″ sensors shooting up to 8K30fps. Film epic adventures,…
- Triple AI Chip Design, Better Low Light: Shoot confidently even in challenging lighting. X5’s triple AI chip design powers advanced noise reduction…
- Invisible Selfie Stick: Create impossible third-person views with no selfie stick in sight! Capture everything in 360°, then choose your angles later…
Dual 1-inch CMOS sensors use the full sensor area for efficiency and 8K video at 50fps, beating the X5’s 30fps. 10-bit D-Log M recording for rich color grading above the X5’s 8-bit I-Log. Single-lens mode is 4K at 120fps with a 170-degree view, photos are 120MP for 360-degree captures, nearly double the X5’s 72MP, though HDR mode drops to 30MP for editing flexibility.
The 1950mAh battery lasts 100 minutes at 8K/30fps without overheating, 90 minutes at 8K/50fps. An optional Battery Extension Rod adds 90 minutes of runtime, and with 105GB of built-in storage (unlike the X5) you can start recording right away. Need more storage? A microSD slot expands capacity instantly.
Audio is a highlight, especially for DJI fans. Four built-in mics are decent, but the ability to connect two DJI Mic 2 or Mic Mini units at once, recording separate 24-bit tracks without a receiver, beats the X5’s single-mic limit. Voice and gesture controls let you record with a wave, even in gloves, it’s a creator’s dream for dynamic shoots.
DJI’s stabilization is on point with RockSteady and HorizonSteady modes, smoothing out rough footage and keeping horizons level or banking for style. It handles rough terrain well, though close-up objects can disrupt 360-degree stitching. Low-light shots with 2.4-micrometer pixels outperform the X5, but stabilization can falter at night, showing minor pixelation common in action cams.
The Standard Combo ($554) includes the camera, battery, pouch and USB-C cable, the Adventure Combo ($728) adds a selfie stick, battery case and mount. The “invisible” selfie stick effect gives you drone-like shots, and fitness data overlays for sports enthusiasts.
