Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim made it ‘very clear’ to his squad that if they do not meet his high standards of commitment then there is no place for them at the club, reveals Diogo Dalot.

Amorim had a torrid time after arriving at Old Trafford in November last year, replacing the dismissed Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League, their worst performance in the division’s history, and failure to win a cup competition means they are not in European football in the coming season.

However, Amorim has been trusted with a significant rebuild of the squad, with the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo already arriving.

Manchester United also intend to secure a number of big departures, with Marcus Rashford already on loan at Barcelona and the likes of Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia all expected to follow him out of the exit door.

These may be big name players, but Dalot explains that Amorim set out his stall very clearly during his first season in charge and any players not meeting his standards cannot expect to be involved.

‘He is very clear on his messages that you want to be a part of the team or you cannot be here,’ Dalot said of Amorim, via ESPN.

‘If you want to be in Manchester United, you need to match some standards. If you’re not able to match it, it’s not a place for you.

‘The message is really clear. The message was that if you started the preseason, it’s because he believes that we are the group that needs to come.’

Teenage full-back Diego Leon has also arrived from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño and there will likely be more signings, with the Red Devils also in the market for a new centre forward.

Dalot is positive about how the squad is being put together, saying: ‘I think we are creating a group that fights for each other.

‘I think that’s what we are trying to create. Obviously, there’s still a long way to go. I think you can see straight away some signs of the team fighting a bit more, having more intensity, and that’s what we are trying to do.’

Outgoings are proving difficult to secure for United, due to the huge amount of money they spent on the likes of Sancho and Antony and the substantial wages they are paid.

Juventus have been linked with a move for Sancho, Real Betis want Antony and both Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund have been touted as suitors for Garnacho, but no moves appear imminent.

Dutch publication Voetbal International report that there has been interest from the Saudi Pro League in Malacia, with talks ongoing over a possible £6m move.

Among the players linked with a move to Old Trafford is Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has become available after failing to agree a new contract with the European champions, reports Sky Sports.

He is in the final year of his deal with PSG and they are open to selling him this summer, with Manchester United keen on replacing Andre Onana with the Italian.
