Bo Turbo Might be World’s First and Only Electric Scooter That Can Outrun a Tesla

Speed has always been a human obsession, from the first horse-drawn chariots to the jet-powered cars carving up the Bonneville Salt Flats. Now a UK-based company called Bo is chasing that legacy with an electric scooter. The Bo Turbo, a machine born from Formula 1 expertise, claims to accelerate faster than a Tesla Model 3 and hit speeds over 100 mph.
Bo, started in 2019, was founded by engineers who worked on projects like the Bloodhound Land Speed Record car and Williams Formula 1. Their mission was to build something extraordinary. The Turbo is their answer—a high-performance beast built on the bones of their consumer-grade Model-M scooter. While the Model-M cruises at a gentle 22 mph with a 40-mile range, the Turbo takes that foundation and turns it up to 11. The Turbo’s aluminum unibody chassis, called the Monocurve, is the base, but everything else is simply bonkers.

Electric motors and batteries get hot, especially when you’re asking them to power a scooter to triple digit speeds. Bo drew on its F1 expertise for the solutions. The Turbo has ram-air intakes, inspired by F1 brake ducts, that feed high speed air through the motor controllers and battery. The chassis itself is a heat sink, dissipating heat to keep things stable. Custom CNC machined components make room for the massive battery, so the whole system stays balanced.
The Turbo uses Bo’s patented Safesteer technology to keep it arrow-straight under acceleration and braking. Stopping power comes from front and rear quad-piston Hope V4 disc brakes with floating rotors designed to handle the heat of repeated high-speed stops. 10-inch pneumatic tires might seem small for such speeds but are paired with advanced traction control that shifts power to the wheel with the most grip. Bo requires buyers to submit riding credentials before they’ll even consider your order.
The Turbo’s price reflects its exclusivity: $29,500. That’s 10 times the cost of a top-end Model-M and roughly the price of a used Tesla Model 3. Bo’s not mass-producing these; they’re built to order for a select few. The first one’s already claimed by a collector in Madrid, set to be delivered at the 2026 Formula 1 Grand Prix there. This scooter was designed for closed tracks, or thrill-seekers who want to push boundaries. Bo’s aiming to prove that at Bonneville Speed Week where they’ll attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest electric scooter, targeting over 100 mph.
Bonneville’s salt flats are hallowed ground for speed. Since 1935 when Sir Malcolm Campbell hit 301 mph in his Bluebird V, this 4,000-square-mile expanse of sodium chloride has been where records are made and broken. The Southern California Timing Association runs Speed Week every August, enforcing strict rules: two passes in opposite directions, averaged for the official speed. The Turbo’s attempt is a bold move. A modified mobility scooter holds the current record at 112 mph but Bo’s machine is a purpose-built rocket.
The Turbo’s claimed 100-mph top speed doesn’t match that but its power-to-weight ratio—higher than a Bugatti Veyron’s—gives it an edge in short bursts. A Model 3 weighs about 4,000 pounds; the Turbo, likely under 100 pounds, is a featherweight by comparison. That’s why it can leap off the line so quickly even if its top speed is lower. It’s a different kind of machine, built for a different kind of thrill.
For those who can’t drop $30,000 or don’t have a racetrack in their backyard, Bo’s Model-M hits the US in August 2025. It’s slower, saner and still has that F1 polish. But the Turbo? It’s the one that’ll keep you up at night wondering what it feels like to stand on a sliver of aluminum and outrun a Tesla Model 3.
