LG’s New 27-Inch OLED Gaming Monitor Can Switch Between 540Hz and 720Hz Refresh Rates

LG Display showed off a 27-inch OLED gaming monitor at K-Display 2025 in Seoul that takes display tech to the next level. This panel has a native 540Hz at 1440p and can switch to 720Hz at 720p with Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) technology. It’s a monitor for gamers who want the fastest, most responsive visuals but its appeal goes beyond gaming with vibrant colors and deep contrast.
Built with LG’s 4th gen OLED tech, the monitor has a peak brightness of 1,500 nits, a big jump for OLED. This brightness combined with 99.5% DCI-P3 color gamut means images pop with color and details whether you’re fragging or watching a movie. The panel uses a Primary RGB Tandem structure, stacking red, green and two blue-emitting layers to boost luminance and contrast. A special anti-glare coating reduces reflections by up to 99% making it perfect for bright environments like a sunlit living room.

The 540Hz at QHD (2560×1440) is buttery smooth, certified by VESA’s ClearMR 21000 for clarity during fast action. For those who want every edge, the DFR technology can drop the resolution to 720p and hit 720Hz, a refresh rate that’s unheard of. This mode is for competitive gamers where every ms counts, though the lower resolution might not be for everyone. The panel’s 0.03ms response time means near instant pixel transition, no ghosting.
The ability to switch between 540Hz at 1440p and 720Hz at 720p gives users flexibility depending on their needs – whether it’s single-player games or high-stakes esports. LG’s proprietary algorithm overcomes the traditional trade-off between high refresh rates and image quality, maintaining crisp images even at crazy speeds. This makes the monitor a great choice for casual and pro gamers who want a display that adapts to their playstyle.
It has Perfect Black, Perfect Color and 100% Color Fidelity certifications from UL Solutions and Intertek so the blacks are deep and colors are accurate like the best displays in the market. The 1,500 nit brightness at 1.5% APL (average picture level) for HDR and 335 nit full screen for SDR makes the content pop.
Mass production has already started and LG Display will release this panel in 2H 2025. Brands like ASUS and Super Display Co. (SDC) have announced monitors with this technology and SDC Flash 540-Meta is expected to be available in Q4 2025. Pricing and exact release date is still under wraps but with big brands involved, we’ll see these panels in high end gaming setups soon.
