Xpeng P7 Offers Fresh Take on Electric Sedans with 87″ AR Heads-Up Display, Up to 586HP

Xpeng’s latest P7 sedan rolls into Beijing with attitude and it’s hard to blame it. This is a bold new car, built from the ground up to take on the crowded electric vehicle market.
The P7 is 197.5 inches long, 77.6 inches wide and 56.2 inches tall with a 118.4 inch wheelbase, closer to a Model S than a compact sedan. The front has a full-width LED light bar and vertical daytime running lights that give it a sci-fi look. The rear has a matching light bar and vertically stacked taillights and a glass panel instead of a trunk lid, giving it a fastback vibe. Some may see hints of Tesla’s Cybertruck in the angles but the P7 feels more refined, more intentional. For those who want flair the “Peng Wing” edition has scissor doors with radar sensors to avoid dings and carbon fiber accents for extra personality.

Step inside and the P7’s cabin is where things get really cool. The dashboard is dominated by an 87 inch augmented reality head-up display, borrowed from the Xiaomi G7 SUV but no less impressive here. It projects navigation, speed and everything in crisp detail so your eyes stay on the road. The central infotainment screen mounted on a tilting panel that angles towards the driver feels like a nod to the driver’s needs. A slim digital gauge cluster behind a three-spoke steering wheel with dials for quick mode changes gives the cockpit a sporty feel. Bucket seats with active side bolsters that inflate during cornering add a touch of high-end performance, like German sports sedans. Ambient lighting sets the mood and the overall feel is premium without being fussy – tech-forward luxury with a focus on the driver.
The P7’s brains are powered by three in-house Turing AI chips, with a combined 2,250 TOPS of computing power – the same as the G7 SUV. Two chips handle the driving assist system, and one chip the cabin’s voice / interface features. The result is a car that feels alive, with vision-language-action and vision-language models that can anticipate routes and respond to complex driving scenarios. Assume you’re driving down a crowded city street: the P7 can proactively recommend the optimal path, reacting to traffic in real time. The cabin’s AI responds fast to voice commands, managing everything from climate control to navigation flawlessly. Over-the-air upgrades improve the system over time, so the car you drive today may become even smarter tomorrow.
It comes with two battery options: 74.9 kWh or 92.92 kWh. The base rear-wheel-drive model has 362 horsepower, enough to feel quick off the line. For more, the dual-motor all-wheel-drive model has a 224-horsepower front motor and a 362-horsepower rear motor, for a total of 586 horsepower and 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. Range is impressive: the base model 436 miles, the long-range rear-wheel-drive 509 miles, the all-wheel-drive 466 miles. Built on an 800-volt platform with 5C fast-charging, the P7 can add 325 miles of range in 10 minutes if you have a charger that can keep up. A dual-chamber air suspension keeps the ride smooth while the car hugs the ground like a sports car, balancing comfort and agility.
Price is the unknown. Xpeng hasn’t confirmed numbers yet, but they’ve said it will be below RMB 300,000 (about $41,750), which is competitive with the P7+’s RMB 186,800 to 208,800. A $3,000 discount for early reservations is a nice bonus. Compared to the Xiaomi SU7 which starts at $29,700, the P7’s tech and performance justify a slight premium especially if it undercuts Western competitors like the Tesla Model S. In China, where EV prices are a concern for market sustainability, Xpeng’s aggressive pricing could make the P7 a winner, but European buyers will pay more due to tariffs.
