For small drones, battery life has always been a problem. This seems to be something the Mini 5 Pro is about to solve. Two batteries are confirmed by leaks: an Intelligent Flight Plus battery at 3,350 mAh (lower than the Mini 4 Pro’s 3,850 mAh) and a basic Intelligent Flight battery at 2,785 mAh (a tiny bump up from the Mini 4 Pro’s 2,590 mAh). Flight time is expected to be 52 minutes, 15% more than the Mini 4 Pro, even with the smaller Plus battery, and prices are dropping. The standard battery will be $69, the Plus battery $99, compared to the Mini 4 Pro’s $99 and $149 respectively.

With a 1-inch CMOS sensor (a big jump from the Mini 4 Pro’s 1/1.3-inch chip) the Mini 5 Pro starts to shine in the camera department. This bigger sensor is perfect for cityscapes at night or landscapes during the golden hour as it means crisper shots and better low light performance. The camera can shoot 120fps slow motion in 4K. A 48mm telephoto setting means you can get tighter shots without flying closer, probably due to in-sensor cropping. Professional results are now more accessible without hours of post production thanks to MasterShots, Night Mode, HDR and noise reduction.
The Mini 5 Pro continues the portability tradition of the Mini series. It’s light, foldable and under 250g so it’s not subject to the same regulations as drones over 250g. Even with a more powerful camera and LiDAR sensors for obstacle avoidance, the weight stays in check as confirmed by the C0 label in the leaks. These sensors are a first for the Mini line and improve safety in tricky situations, especially in low light like urban jungles or deep forests. Better performance is also suggested by the vented motors which may give longer flight times and better wind resistance. Pilots have more freedom to explore with the O4+ transmission system which increases the control range to 25km.
According to rumors the Fly More Combo which comes with the DJI RC 2 controller with a built in screen and 3 batteries will cost €1,129 in Europe. The same as the Mini 4 Pro’s bundle. It will be £979 in the UK and although the US price hasn’t been announced yet, it’s estimated to be between $800-$900. So even with the improvements DJI is keeping prices in check and the Mini 5 Pro is a great option for both pros and enthusiasts. The assumption that DJI is putting convenience first with an all in one controller that gets rid of phone tethering is supported by a retail box image that’s been making the rounds on social media. It shows the drone with the RC 2.
