Microsoft and LG Electronics are teaming up to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to select internet-connected vehicles, turning car infotainment systems into gaming stations. This partnership integrates the Xbox app into LG’s webOS Automotive Content Platform so passengers can stream hundreds of games from the back seat.

First, let’s talk about what this means for gamers. If you’re a passenger in a vehicle with LG’s webOS platform—like the Kia EV3, EV4, EV5 or the new Sportage—you can fire up the Xbox app and access a library of games. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers get access to big titles like Gears of War: Reloaded, Forza Horizon 5 as well as upcoming releases such as The Outer Worlds 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Beyond Game Pass, users can also stream games they already own like Bugsnax, Don’t Starve or Mafia: The Old Country. All you need is a compatible Bluetooth controller, an automotive data plan and an internet connection.

The Xbox app will only be available on backseat infotainment screens not the driver’s display to comply with driving safety regulations and keep the driver’s attention on the road. The announcement doesn’t specify what kind of safeguards but it’s likely the system will disable gaming functions while the car is in motion like Tesla did.

LG’s webOS platform is the foundation for this experience, it previously powered smart TVs and provided apps like Netflix and YouTube. This feature was announced at the IAA Mobility show in Munich on September 8, 2025 with the Kia EV3. LG plans to roll out its Automotive Content Platform to more models with the goal of equipping 20 million vehicles by 2030.

For Xbox, this is part of a broader strategy to meet players where they are. Microsoft has already brought Xbox Cloud Gaming to phones, tablets, PCs and TVs through partnerships with companies like LG and Samsung. Adding vehicles to the mix means no need for dedicated hardware like a gaming handheld. Why carry an extra device when your car’s screen can do it? By turning existing screens into Xbox portals Microsoft expands its ecosystem while keeping costs low and accessibility high.

Getting started is easy. Open the Xbox app on the car’s infotainment system, log into your Game Pass Ultimate account, pair a Bluetooth controller and you’re good to go. The setup is the same as Xbox Cloud Gaming on other devices so it’s a familiar experience. No word yet on which other vehicles beyond Kia’s lineup will support this but with LG’s growing presence in the automotive world more brands could adopt webOS in the future.
