Mum shares video Ricky Hatton sent her son just days before tragic death

A heartbroken mum has shared the video her bullied son received from Ricky Hatton just a few days before his death.
Tributes have poured in after Hatton, one of the best and most popular boxers of his generation, was found dead at the age of 46.
Those who knew Hatton have remembered not only a sporting legend but a ‘one of a kind’ character who wanted to help people until the very end.
Further evidence of his character is seen in a touching video Hatton sent to mum Sally after her son Louie was targeted by bullies at school.
Hatton told the schoolboy to ‘keep his chin up’ and told him to try ‘not to worry’ about the bullies as even he, a boxing icon, suffered at school.
The Mancunian also praised Louie for recently taking up boxing, telling him it would give him ‘confidence’ that he too got after starting boxing several decades ago.
‘I believe you’ve been having a tough time at school by a couple of bullies,’ Hatton said in the touching clip.

‘Don’t worry about it my mate, that’s nothing new. Even I had a bully when I was at school.
‘But you’ve done the right thing taking up the boxing, not so you can get your own back on him and beat him up, but boxing gives you confidence, doesn’t it?
‘And the minute these bullies see you’ve got a little bit of confidence, they’ll leave you alone. So I think you’ve done the right thing, mate.

‘Keep your chin up, and I wish you all the best with the boxing. Good luck, son.’
Louie’s mum Sally posted the clip last Wednesday, just days before Hatton was found dead at his home in Manchester.
After Hatton died, Sally said she would ‘treasure the video forever’ and feels lucky to have it.
The mum fought back tears as she posted an emotional video to social media, saying: ‘This man took his time to send this video to my little boy.’
Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton won world titles at two weight divisions, ending his professional career in 2012 with 45 wins from 48 bouts.
Hatton, who was due to attend Sunday’s Manchester derby, won world title fights against Kostya Tszyu and Jose Luis Castillo, while he suffered defeats to all-time greats Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
Police statement on Ricky Hatton’s death

Such was his popularity, more than 30,000 Brits travelled to Las Vegas to watch his fight against Mayweather in 2007.
Hatton was the subject of a documentary in 2023 which discussed his personal life and struggles since hanging up the boxing gloves.
Ricky’s younger brother and former boxer Matthew paid tribute to ‘The Hitman’ shortly after his death was announced, posting: ‘I love you Richard. See you on the other side.’
Manchester United and England legend David Beckham, who attended several of Hatton’s fights, added: ‘Ricky was one of a kind.
‘Just heartbreaking. Ricky was one of a kind and loved by his fans.
A minute’s applause was held for Hatton before Sunday’s Manchester derby, which his beloved City won 3-0 thanks to Erling Haaland’s brace and a Phil Foden header.
Man City manager Pep Guardiola, who fought back tears during the tribute, said Hatton was a ‘true champion’ and ‘part of the City family’.
