First Look at Subaru’s Uncharted EV, a Compact Electric Crossover with Grit

Subaru’s new 2026 Uncharted rolled into New York City on July 17, 2025 with a whisper and a promise: to marry Subaru’s rugged, trail-ready charm with electric efficiency. Sharing Toyota’s e-TNGA platform with the C-HR, the Uncharted feels like a Crosstrek cousin but with an electric twist.

At 177.9 inches long, the Uncharted is 6.8 inches shorter than the Solterra EV but has over 25 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row. Subaru’s engineers tuned the suspension for sharp handling, testing on gravel, dirt and snow to uphold the brand’s all-weather cred.

There are two power options. The base Premium trim has a single front-wheel-drive motor making 221 horsepower, a big deal for a brand that’s all about all-wheel drive. Subaru says this limited-availability model prioritizes affordability and range, with an estimated 300 miles of range. For more power, the Sport and GT trims have 338 horsepower with dual motors and Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with X-Mode for traction on slippery surfaces. These trims trim the range to about 290 miles but get to 0-60 in under 5 seconds. A 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery powers all trims with a 150 kW NACS port for Tesla Supercharger access, charging from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.

Inside, the Uncharted’s cabin is a modern oasis. A 14-inch touchscreen dominates the dashboard with intuitive software and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Dual wireless charging pads below and 60W USB-C ports for rear passengers on the GT trim. Rear legroom, 36.5 inches like the Crosstrek, is decent but not spacious—taller riders may want more room.

Subaru’s design team gave the Uncharted a unique look, aligning it with the Solterra and Trailseeker. Up front, weather-resistant headlamps and a six-star logo set it apart. The GT trim has a two-tone roof and 20-inch wheels, while the rear has combination lamps and a silver-painted fascia. It shares DNA with the C-HR but has black badging and extra cladding for that Subaru toughness.

The Uncharted is all about balance. It’s not trying to be the flashiest EV or the most extreme off-road vehicle. It’s a practical, stylish crossover that’s just as happy in a muddy forest as it is in a crowded parking lot. The front-wheel-drive option may be a shock to Subaru purists but it’s a smart move to broaden the appeal. Coming to showrooms in early 2026 in Premium FWD, Sport and GT trims, the Uncharted is ready to take on the compact and subcompact SUV market and invite you to hit the trails or the nearest charging station.
