Ashley Prange, a conservationist, flew over Germany’s Rhine Valley this summer with her iPhone 16 Pro in hand. She was filming through an open window when disaster struck. The phone slipped and fell 2,600 feet to the ground. Most would write off such a loss – after all, a phone falling from a plane sounds like a death sentence.

She opened the Find My app on another device and the phone’s last known location popped up deep in a forest near her cousin’s house. The stakes were high – her credit card and driver’s license were in the phone’s case. Hours passed, the kind of time that can drain hope, but then she saw it – a glint of metal and glass, untouched, lying in the leaves.

The iPhone 16 Pro was unharmed and had been recording the whole time, capturing its wild descent as well as landing. Prange credits the Bellroy wallet case and Apple’s engineering. The Bellroy case, a simple leather design, absorbed the impact and the iPhone’s titanium frame and Ceramic Shield glass held up against the odds.

Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro, with its aerospace-grade materials, is built to withstand more than pocket drops or fumbles onto the pavement. The device’s durability comes from a combination of lightweight titanium, a glass back fused to the frame and a front display engineered to resist cracks. Add a well-made case and the phone becomes a fortress, capable of surviving extreme scenarios – like a 2,600 foot fall from a moving plane.
