Andre Onana will reportedly double his wages when he departs Manchester United to join Trabzonspor on a season-long loan deal.

United’s hierarchy informed Onana he was free to leave on a temporary basis after strengthening their options in goal with a deadline-day transfer move for Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens.

Altay Bayindir has been given the nod for United’s three opening matches of the Premier League campaign, with Onana’s only start coming in the side’s shock Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Grimsby Town.

Super Lig outfit Trabzonspor have been keeping close tabs on Onana’s situation and stepped up their pursuit of the Cameroon international this weekend, with the Turkish transfer window remaining open until September 12.

Discussions over a proposed loan move have advanced at a pace in recent days and United accepted a loan offer from Trabzonspor for the error-prone shot-stopper on Saturday.

Twenty-four hours later, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano claimed Onana had also reached an agreement with Trabzonspor – and the ex-Inter Milan star is expected to travel to Turkey on Thursday.

According to The Athletic, Trabzonspor have agreed to cover United’s salary in full, with Onana set to earn extra due to added bonuses. The report claims ‘sources close to the player say he will earn almost double’ in Trabzon.

Onana, who is currently away on international duty with Cameroon, still has three years remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford.

The ‘keeper could be in line to make his debut Trabzonspor when the side return to top-flight action away to Fenerbahce next weekend.

Trabzonspor currently sit second in the Super Lig, two points adrift of reigning champions Galatasaray after four games.

It marks the end of a summer of major upheaval at the Theatre of Dreams, with Onana set to follow Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Rasmus Hojlund , Victor Lindelof, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho out the exit door.

Ruben Amorim has been reluctant to publicly criticise Onana throughout his rocky tenure as United boss and claimed last season that he had made more mistakes than the Cameroonian.

‘It can happen,’ Amorim said after Onana produced a pair of dreadful mistakes in United’s 2-2 draw at home to Lyon in the Europa League.

‘If you play football, a lot of games, you can make mistakes.

‘If you look at the season, I’ve made more mistakes than them in these last games and during this last month.

‘The best thing is to look at the goals [that Onana conceded], the actions that Andre had in the game, and to talk to the [goalkeeping coaches].

‘That’s the best thing to do, to help every player to show what happened in the game and what we need to improve, and then put it to the player again.’

This season, Amorim has also backed Bayindir when facing the media, despite the Turk’s struggles across United’s three opening matches.

‘They are humans. At Manchester United, everything is analysed. Everybody talks about the goalkeeper,’ the Portuguese said of Bayindir’s difficult start.

‘And you can see, I can change the goalkeeper and these situations keep happening. We are in that moment.

‘I think it is hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment. But if you look at the first goal, we can defend it better.

‘We suffered a quite similar goal against Fulham, because we don’t do the full rotation of the team when the ball is on the other side.

‘All these small things have nothing to do with the goalkeeper.’
