Mario’s Next Big Leap Revealed in New Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer

Nintendo and Illumination just dropped the trailer for the sequel to their hit Super Mario Bros. Movie and it’s got enough to keep fans talking for months. Announced during today’s Nintendo Direct, the film is titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and takes Mario and the gang into uncharted cosmic territory.
Fans got their first look with a short teaser trailer that sets a calm yet interesting tone. Mario is just relaxing beneath a green tree while the camera glides over a peaceful river. Then it rises to show the original Mushroom Kingdom, complete with a breathtaking stained-glass portrait of Princess Peach. The scene suddenly shifts back to the night sky, with stars twinkling and the title faded in against a backdrop of endless space.

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who directed the 2023 hit and brought Mario’s world to life with beautiful animation, are back to direct. They’re working with screenwriter Matthew Fogel, who wrote the original and captured the games while introducing new story twists. Brian Tyler is back to score, so those popular songs get a cosmic boost that’s reminiscent of the Super Mario Galaxy games from 2007 and 2010. Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo are overseeing the whole thing, which combines Hollywood polish with Nintendo innovation.
Universal Pictures will distribute internationally, starting with a US release on April 3, 2026 and expanding to many other markets. Japan follows on April 24, with other countries launching throughout the month. That staggered rollout will build momentum, just like the previous film. Universal and Nintendo are co-financing, so the partnership that’s already proven so successful continues. Illumination is handling the animation (they’re the folks behind the Despicable Me series) and Nintendo is making sure everything is true to the plumber. This partnership started strong with the first film and shows no signs of slowing down.
Bringing back the whole cast of voice actors is a sense of continuity and familiarity that fans will love. Chris Pratt is back in Mario’s overalls, while Anya Taylor-Joy returns as Princess Peach. Charlie Day voices Luigi, the taller brother’s anxious but loyal sidekick, ready for more bro adventures. Jack Black is back as Bowser, his wickedness as outrageous and funny as ever. Keegan-Michael Key is back as Toad. Kevin Michael Richardson rounds out the cast as Kamek, the magical Koopa who brings a little mischief to the mix.
