Roy Keane accuses Man Utd star of ‘giving up’ against Man City | Football

Roy Keane accused Luke Shaw of ‘throwing in the towel’ during Manchester United’s derby defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
United’s poor start to the new season continued on Sunday as Ruben Amorim’s side were thumped 3-0 by local rivals City.
Phil Foden put his recent dip in form to one side by heading home Man City’s opener following fine work from Jeremy Doku.
Doku skipped past Shaw effortlessly before providing the cross that Foden turned home, sparking jubilant scenes in a stadium which held a minute’s applause pre-match for Ricky Hatton, who died aged 46.
Manchester City’s dominance continued in the second half, with Erling Haaland scoring twice to end any chances of a United comeback.

Haaland raced through on goal twice before beating United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir to seal Man City’s victory and take his tally in Manchester derbies to eight.
Discussing Manchester City’s opener at half-time, Keane told Sky Sports: ‘It’s a very good goal from Man City, Doku and Foden, the timing is perfect.

‘But United’s defending, the two midfielders are too square and Luke Shaw just gives up.
‘It’s a nice bit of skill but Shaw’s an England international player, hundreds of games under his belt and he doesn’t even get his body position right.
‘It’s far too easy, it’s like he’s thrown the towel in. We know people can run off the back off Bruno, that’s been going on for years, but my goodness…
‘Even before that, the two midfielders are too square, one pass takes them out. It’s far too easy.

‘It’s as if United, they’ve got all the numbers back and everyone’s going: “Who’s going to make a tackle?” Shaw just throws the towel in there.’
Fellow Old Trafford legend Gary Neville also criticised Shaw’s performance against Man City and admitted he was surprised he was not subbed off.
‘There have been times when I have seen United lose this type of match when I feel angry,’ Neville said on commentary.
‘I just feel nothing, which is even worse. This has been a nothing performance. There will be some pressure applied to the manager.
‘His rigidity, sticking with the system, Man City have beaten them well. It’s Chelsea next week. If there’s another defeat, big questions will start to be asked.’
Victory for Manchester City sees them bounce back strongly to back-to-back defeats before the international break and climb to eighth in the Premier League.
Manchester United, meanwhile, slip to 14th and still have just four points after the opening four games of the season.
