Wheelie Fun Bike is All-Electric, Might be First with Push to Wheelie Button

A wheelie is the kind of stunt that turns heads, but sometimes sends riders tumbling. It’s a skill that requires balance, timing and a bit of courage. Enter the Wheelie Fun Bike, from Sacramento’s The Float Life (TFL) that makes wheelies accessible to anyone who can ride a bike. With the press of a button this electric bike lifts its front wheel up in the air, no skills required.

Built from the ground up in Sacramento, California the Wheelie Fun Bike is the brainchild of Jeff McCosker, a name familiar to OneWheel fans. Since 2017 TFL has been making aftermarket parts for the OneWheel, a single wheeled electric board that riders carve like a snowboard. McCosker’s float plate invention spawned a freestyle movement for OneWheelers and now he’s bringing that same ingenuity to two wheels. The bike uses an inertial measurement unit (IMU) like the OneWheel to manage motor torque and balance during wheelies.

Pressing the wheelie button activates one of two modes: Push to Wheelie or Digital Wheelie Bar. In Push to Wheelie mode hold the button and the bike will lift into a wheelie at a pre set angle, lean forward to speed up or back to slow down. It’s as easy as tilting a joystick. The Digital Wheelie Bar mode gives you more control, you can pop the front wheel up by pinning the throttle while the IMU prevents you from flipping back. For those who like to keep both wheels on the ground a Wheel Lift Resistance setting ensures the front tire stays planted during hard acceleration.

Powering this machine is a 72v 10ah battery with a 5,000w hub motor, good for over 35mph and over 30 miles of range. An optional 20ah battery to be detailed later will stretch that range to 50+ miles. The motor is a 6inch high torque unit that drives the rear wheel with enough force to make acceleration feel wild. Full suspension smooths out bumps, front disc brake and regenerative rear brake give you confident stopping power. The frame is a custom tube design that looks like a vintage pit bike, with a banana seat that keeps you locked in during long wheelies.

The app takes it to the next level, turning the bike into a customizable playground. A real time dashboard shows speed, battery life and power usage while you ride. You can switch between pre set ride modes for range, power or comfort or fine tune throttle response, brake strength and wheelie angle to your style. The app also hints at future features like leaderboards to compare wheelie distance and tutorials to help new riders learn the bike.
