Traveling light is an art and forgetting a charger is a universal mistake. Twelve South’s PowerBug, a clever device that turns any wall outlet into a wireless charging station, aims to change that. This little guy is $49.99 and combines a Qi2 wireless charging pad with a USB-C port.

Devices need power and outlets are everywhere but the tangle of cords feels like a necessary evil. Twelve South sidesteps this by designing the PowerBug to plug directly into a wall socket, no cables required. Its puck-like shape (2.3 inches across and 1.1 inches thick) houses a MagSafe-compatible Qi2 charging pad that delivers up to 15W of wireless power to iPhones (12 and newer) or Android devices with Qi2 or MagSafe cases. Foldable prongs make it easy to stow in a bag and it’s only a quarter of a pound. Available in Slate (black) or Dune (white) it blends into any setting, whether it’s a kitchen counter or a hotel nightstand.

Functionality is in its simplicity. Snap your phone onto the PowerBug’s magnetic surface and it holds firm, charges wirelessly and doubles as a stand. Handy for glancing at recipes in the kitchen or following a workout video in a hotel room. It supports iOS StandBy mode, turns your iPhone into a smart display for time, calendars or widgets. A USB-C port on the bottom charges up to 35W so you can charge a second device like AirPods or a tablet.

Compared to others, the PowerBug stands out for being cable free. Zens’ Wireless Charging Adapter has a similar plug-in design but no USB-C port. MagSafe stands are traditional and adjustable but require a separate power brick and cable adding bulk to your setup. The PowerBug’s all-in-one design feels like a step forward especially if you value a clean look. At $49.99 it’s priced competitively with premium Qi2 chargers though it’s not as fast as Apple’s 25W MagSafe for iPhone 16 models. But 15W is plenty for most and the dual charging is a bonus.
